Jess Jocoy | Artist Introduction

If you could read a book the life of Jess Jocoy it would become apparent pretty early on that she was destined for a life in the music industry. For several years she took part in singing competitions and took every opportunity she could to sing on karaoke in her home state of Washington. From a young age she was introduced to a variety of different artists from the music industry as her parents both listened to very different music. Her mother a fan of classic rock such as Led Zeppelin while her father a fan of country artists like Alan Jackson. As soon as Jess found her voice, both literally and as a singer, her parents have encouraged her to chase her dreams and perform!

With the support of her parents as well as her drive to succeed in the industry Jess had her mind set on moving to Nashville. Sadly before she had achieved her dream of moving to Music City, her father passed away from cancer in 2013. She admits that during that time she felt lost but instead of ignoring it chose to create music that focused on the universal feeling of grief. It was during that time she began to understand how to write sad songs – as a writer myself that is something I can relate too. Following the loss of her father she was now more set on realizing her dream, soon after she moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University where she worked on perfecting the art of writing music.

Touring, Inspirations and Goals

Now in Nashville she is still constantly setting new dreams to work towards such as playing the Ryman Auditorium. Relatively new to touring there had been shows arranged to take her around the US, however, at the moment those are on hold. Some of her favorite venues across the southern states are LaGrange in Georgia and The Bowery Vault in Nashville. (If you happen to be in Nashville or Georgia following this outbreak be sure to check them both out!)

As an artist the creative process is one she often works through alone – at least when it comes to writing the song. She would love to be able to connect with other poetic writers/musicians such as John Moreland, Joe Pug, or Patty Griffin, and would be the first to volunteer if they needed an opener! She has met Joe Pug once at a workshop and remembers him saying the key to writing is “saying the thing without saying the thing.” She has tested it out a few times but due to overthinking as always stuck writing in a simplistic way which tells a clear-cut story.

Such A Long Way | Most Recent Release

She is drawn to the storytellers of the industry such as Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile and Alec Benjamin to name a few. These all create music that makes the listener think – something she is hoping to recreate with her music. When creating her most recent album, Such A Long Way, she was aiming to create a similar sound with her unique twist to it.
Such A Long Way is her debut album however she released an EP in 2018 and has released a few singles since then. Such A Long Way gives us an insight into her personal life, career, and feelings. It is important to note that not every track on the record tells her personal story, however, the way she performs them could have anybody fooled. With such emotion in her voice it forces you to revisit emotions or times in your life that you may have been avoiding for some time.

Hope (Such A Long Way) may have been written as a song that she needed to hear herself, however, I feel that its a track we all need to hear. Often we forget about our dreams trying to make other people happy – this song is a reminder to me, you and everybody else in the world that your dreams are yours to chase. Another song that I felt spoke to me was Love Her Wild, it is my personal favourite from the album. With other tracks such as The Ballad of Two Lovers, Hallelujah, Numb and Somebody Somewhere this album is one of the best I have had the opportunity of listening to for quite some time!

Summary of Jess Jocoy

Regardless of the creative process or writing style she chooses to follow, one thing is certain – Jess is an extremely talented songwriter, singer, and storyteller. If you like what you hear and want to support Jess during this time you can buy merchandise on the site linked above! Other ways you can support her is by streaming or purchasing her music, following her social accounts or simply by sharing this post! In my opinion, it is only a matter of time until this incredible young woman is headlining a world tour!

Music Mentions – May 4th 2020.

Introducing: Music Mentions!

The music industry is constantly growing – every day we hear of new artists breaking into the charts such as Bob Fitzgerald who was featured in one of my recent posts! On top of the new artists breaking into the industry we also have our favourite artists who will bring out new music! Regardless of the genre of music or individual preferences we are immersed in a world of option and deciding which ones to choose is often difficult.

This is the first in a series of posts which aims to answer the question all music lovers have “who can I listen to next?” Read on to find out about some artists including general information, new releases, social links and any other important information!

Justin Fancy: Canada: Singer/Songwriter

Canadian native singer/songwriter Justin Fancy from Conception Bay South, Newfoundland is not new to music! For over ten year he has been involved in the music scene, especially around St Johns, Newfoundland. He is known for singing just about any song from across a range of different genres! Growing up Justin was drawn to legends of country music such as Merle Haggard who created songs that told powerful stories. As an artist he hopes to explore the complex principle of human emotion, not just in his songs but also in the way he performs them. As a introduction into his upcoming debut album, Fancy has released two singles; Long Time Comin’ and Think About You! Both songs demonstrate his ability as a writer, performer and storyteller in different ways which has me excited for the upcoming album! Check out his music on your favourite streaming platform and follow his social links to stay up to date with new releases, tours and more!

Amanda McCarthy: USA: Singer/Songwriter

With her plans to move to Nashville this fall, New England Native, Amanda McCarthy is ready to carve her name into the minds of music lovers all around the world! Having once suffered from stage freight Amanda constantly looks for ways to step outside of her comfort zone with many now describing her as fearless. Folk Song, a piece that quickly became a fan-favourite, shows just how fearless she is and focuses on the topic of discrimination in the music industry. She has no intentions of labelling herself or putting herself in a box with hopes of creating music that just speaks to people. Road Trip, an album she released last year, blends together reality and fantasy as she shares personal tracks which give us an insight into her life. By wearing her heart on her sleeve and opening herself up to the world she has developed a music that we can all relate too, her song Solo is one of my favourites! She is hoping to release the B-Side to Road Trip this summer which will include one of her newest singles, Steven. If you like music that speaks to you then you definitely need to check her out; her music is available on streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify – to learn more about her and follow her journey check out her social links below!

Autumn Helene – USA – Singer/Songwriter

At just thirteen years old Autumn Helene is already experienced in performing having played shows at festivals, fairs, parties and more across Washington state. Furthermore, her debut single – You Wont Regret a Thing was her response to being bullied, that song led to her becoming one of the youngest composers on imdb as it will be used in upcoming show, Hunting Jessica. For somebody so young to write pieces of music that are so emotive, powerful and well written is amazing, its easy to forget that she is so young! Often compared to big names in the industry such as Adele or Billie Eilish the future is already looking very bright for this youngster. Her most recent release Stars Align has been played on radios all around the world. She is hoping to continue to put out new music and can’t wait to get back on the road once the current situation has improved. Her music is all available on a number of streaming platforms as well as Youtube so be sure to check it out. To follow her story then follow her social links below!

Boxes – UK – Band

With the recent release of their debut EP, Why Don’t You Listen, a new Manchester country rock band, Boxes, have had a whirlwind start to 2020 for all the right reasons! They are a four piece band which consists of David Miller – lead singer & acoustic guitar, Josh Smith – electric guitar & backing vocals, Tom Adams – bass guitar & backing vocals and James Saunders – drum and beat man. Their journey of the band started a number of years ago but the band as we see it today have been together for around a year! Labelled by others from the industry as “Nashville-Upon-Irwell” its clear that there music is inspired by old-school country, rock but also their northern roots! As a band Boxes are heavily focused on lyrics or the stories behind the songs which can be heard in tracks like Fragile as well as Let Me In. Vocally speaking their harmonies sound absolutely incredible – especially in the Electric Light which secured the band some radio play! As they are newcomers on the block you will be joining them from the start so remember to follow their social links below! Their music is available on your favourite streaming platforms – so be sure to download it.

Crystalline – UK – Band

In the almost three years that Crystalline have been together they have worked on developing their music style. The five piece rock band cant pinpoint a particular career highlight as many great things have happened to them over the years! However, the reaction and response they received from their most recent release, Til The Sun Comes Up, as well as their headline show in March has definitely been memorable for them! Based in Wales the band current members are; Elliot Packham on drums, Ed Thomas on bass guitar, Sion Harling on rhythm guitar, Amir Maleki on lead guitar and Eva Mullen on lead vocals! The progression they have made as a band is clear when you compare the release from 2018 to the most recent release but nonetheless their sound is incredible for those who love rock music! You can download their music on your favourite streaming platform and their most recent release also has a music video on youtube! Check out the links below to join them on their road to music!

Claire Beverly ; Introducing US Music

Introducing:
Claire Beverly

Where is she from:
Nashville native living in South Carolina

Memorable music memories:

At seven years old she was told by a popular girl to never sing so didn’t for 11 years!

Her first concert was Halsey – even though she was sat in the nosebleeds she felt as though Halsey was right there due to how she carried her vocals and performed. It was this concert she realised she wanted to be that way too as an artist.

Singing ‘Blessed Assurance’ at Myrtle Beach when she made a connection with an elderly man over his story about his late wife and thanked her – its one thing she’ll never forget!

Claire Beverly | Artist Introduction

For a lot of people in the music industry they have an artist or song that changed their life in someway, for Claire Beverly this is no different. Her number one favourite artist is Elvis Presley, its been that way for as long as she can remember. His track, Heartbreak Hotel, really sharped her career in music. She started playing Piano at a young age but it took her until three years ago to focus on songwriting and singing. She is hoping to create honest music that does not limit her to one genre but instead tells a story of her personal feelings, experiences and moods.

The road to music however was not easy for Claire Beverly who like many other artists faced rejection. At just seven years old she was told by popular girls in her school who held their own version of ‘American Idol’ that she shouldn’t even try to sing. From that moment until the age of eighteen she did not sing a word! When she decided to start singing again, she was shocked by how some artists would treat one another. Luckily for Claire she signed with Charlotte Avenue Entertainment where she works with Michelle and Will Gawley who are extremely kind and supportive. In addition to that she found a group of wonderful artists from the same agency who have provided her with the encouragement and positive motivation she needed to continue her music career.

Creative Process

Her creative process is one that Claire admits is a little strange – inspiration for a new piece of music often comes to her at inconvenient times such as at work or when she should be sleeping. Trainwreck, one of her most popular songs was one that first came to life in her dream – it was one of those moments she woke up and just HAD to finish it! One of her favourite places to write is at work as she feels the most creative there, the only negative is she never has an instrument with her!

Whats more important to her then genre is the ability to connect with her audience through songs that tell an honest story. She hopes to build a similar connection to her audience as the one she felt with Halsey when she went to her first ever concert. Her first experience of creating a special moment came when she performed, Blessed Assurance, in Myrtle Beach! Following her performance an elderly gentlemen shared the story of his late wife and how he would sing that song to her, its a moment that Claire will never forget it! As mentioned before she hopes to create music that is not genre specific and so far has done just that, creating music under a range of genres such as Rock, Folk, Alternative, and Pop. One day she would love the opportunity to open for Harry Styles, another artist who has worked across many genres, because she admires his ability to just be himself.

Amber Eyes & Trainwreck | Most recent release

In addition to Trainwreck Claire Beverly has a number of other songs available such as her most recent single, Amber Eyes which came out in March 2020! There is a clear difference between both Trainwreck and Amber Eyes – but two elements remains consistent; a strong vocal performance and a emotional connection to the songs. As Amber Eyes is her most recent single read on to find out what I thought:

I could keep this extremely simple by admitting that Amber Eyes is the song that has been missing from my life. That statement alone should be enough to tell you that this is an incredible piece of music! However, let me dive into that a little deeper, the way I interpret this song makes me feel that Claire really understands part of my story in a way that no other artist has. The song itself is very simple yet still very touching. The music is soothing which perfectly matches her soft yet emotionally powerful vocals – overall, its just an incredible song.

Summary of Claire Beverly

Claire is one of those artist that has a true talent not just for telling her story but for finding the perfect balance between genres meaning her music will speak to a larger audience! If you like what you hear, please download her music on all streaming platforms!

Some exciting news! This year she plans to bring out her second EP to join Claire on her journey and be amongst the first to hear about any confirmed dates for release then follow her social links above!!

DEBUT SINGLE ‘NEXT TO ME’ OUT TODAY (May 1st 2020)!

Logan Piercey | Introduction

For some people the art of figuring out what dreams they want to chase is an aspect of life that can take up a lot of time, for others however they figure it out pretty early on. For Massachusetts native, Logan Piercey, he realised during his first live performance at a middle school talent contest that music was the path he wanted to take in life. Since he realised his dream and started taking it seriously the only thing that really stood in his way was fear. He had heard many people disclose the difficulty they had getting into the industry and voice their concerns over how unlikely they felt it was. That fear was enough to take him to college but during his last year when searching for a job he couldn’t find any that interested him. The one thing his mind kept going back to was music.

After graduation when most of his class mates were starting new jobs Logan made the choice to move back home where he came up with a plan to move to Nashville. The drive is one he remembers so vividly, he and his father took separate cars which meant the whole way he was left to evaluate the situation. One part of him still carried that fear he had for years but the bigger part of him was overwhelmed with excitement! He was eager to see what he could make of his dreams, determined to be successful in his aspirations of becoming a singer-songwriter.

Music Memories

One moment that he holds particularly close to his heart is the time he had the opportunity to perform at his brothers wedding during the mother and son dance, its a memory that he will never forget. In addition to his passion for music his family is everything to him – that includes his Corgi, Parker who is 14 years old! Go check out his adorable pup over on Instagram you won’t regret it – go for the pup, stay for the music! When asked about different artists he would love to work with or tour with Logan mentioned two very different artists. Jade Bird, is an artist with such infectious energy that he would love to work on a project with her to see what they could come up with. The Lumineers are a band that have always inspired him and after getting the opportunity to see them live in February, are at the top of his list for artists he would love to open for! The variation of the two artists alone is enough to let us know that Logan is more focused on creating good music than he is in making music that fits into one genre.

Next To Me | New Release

A lot of artists have been using this time to develop their music as well as spending time with those they care about, watching their favourite shows and enjoying some other hobbies, Logan is no different! During quarantine he has spent a lot of time recording, planning, performing live streams and promoting his new single, NEXT TO ME, that he co-wrote with Campbell Davies that was released today, May 1st 2020!

NEXT TO ME is available NOW on a number of streaming platforms such as Apple Music & Spotify!

Music is a powerful storytelling tool that can cover a variety of different issues or areas in life, the story behind a song is often what helps the listeners connect with the artist. The concept Logan and Campbell explored in this single is a simple one, the aspect of young innocent love, something the listeners can all relate too in their own way. However, going into that session neither Logan nor Campbell had a plan – it was only after some random guitar picking that the intro was developed which took them both on a journey back to youth and summertime. The different steps taken to bring NEXT TO ME to life have been full of rewards and fun, for Logan his favourite part was the recording process as he had his friends involved! Its also clear that everybody, especially Ren Renfree who produced the track, shared the same vision as Logan when it came to the song! Read on to find out what I thought about NEXT TO ME!

From the moment you hear the first note the listener instantly falls into a summertime feeling! The feeling alone would be enough to keep you listening but the moment Logan starts to sing it feels as though he is directing it at you making it feel really personal! From start to finish the listener is surrounded by a variety feel-good vibes from romance to summer to youth to just pure happiness and joy in general. The chorus is so memorable that after listening once, you will be stuck singing it for days! This song really has it all – feel good vibes, relatable story and a memorable chorus – if this is a taste of what to expect then we have A LOT to be excited about, Logan included! The story NEXT TO ME tells may be simple but in my opinion this is one of those occasions were less is definitely more!

DOWNLOAD AND STREAM NEXT TO ME ON YOUR CHOSEN PLATFORM NOW!

Summary

NEXT TO ME is the first track Logan has released from his upcoming EP, Old School! The rest of this year will he will be focusing on promoting the rest of the songs from that upcoming EP while continuing to work on content for his social media pages! He has already started writing and recording a new project that he hopes will be coming out at some point in 2021. Danny McMahon | Artist Introduction

When we listen to music we often build a connection to that artist, sometimes we relate to the song, sometimes their story inspires us to chase our own dreams. For Danny McMahon, a UK singer-songwriter, he connected with the music of Brad Paisley, this connection led to him developing a great passion for country music. The stories behind the songs of artists like Brad Paisley carried strong emotions and covered topics Danny could relate to. If you have heard any of the music Danny himself has released you will know that he aims to create similar music with strong emotion and relatable stories. Danny started his career as a songwriter a number of years ago working as a commercial writer for Paramount Songwriting. After attending the UK Country to Country music festival in 2017 Danny was motivated to develop his music further.

Music Career & Growth

With his new found inspiration in addition to his growing passion for country music Danny released his debut EP, Making Memories, in November 2017. Less than a year later in June 2018 he released his second EP, Momentarily, this was followed by his single, When I See You, just a few months later. That single became his first number one in the UK country music charts – it was nominated for BCMA video of the year as well as winning country song of the year award. 2018 was an extremely busy year for him with a headline a tour across the UK, a slot at buckle & boots as well as support slots for a number US artists such as Canaan Cox and Charlie Worsham. Ending that year on a high Danny visited Nashville where he recorded with 5-time Grammy nominated & 27 dove nominated songwriter & producer Billy Smiley!

Building on the momentum 2019 saw the release of yet another amazing EP, Boys Cry Too, which included the number 1 song, When I See You. As well as that song receiving awards Danny himself was recognised as the UK Country artist of the year! He continued to play shows across the world with appearances in Italy, Sweden, Nashville and more! November saw the release of his single, Lonely, another wonderful piece of music, which reached number 4 in the UK country music charts!

Storytelling and Songwriting

One thing that has become apparent in all of his music is that he is extremely gifted in the art of storytelling, music and performing. As a songwriter he has the ability to create a clear picture for the listeners which takes them on a journey through the story of that specific track. The fact he brings out new music fairly regularly suggests that he has a lot to say whether it be linked romance, reflection or other aspects of life which are easy for us all to relate too. Although he is inspired by a range of artists such as Brad Paisley, Russell Dickerson and Sam Hunt, he creates a sound that is unique to him, a sound so distinctive that when you hear his music, you just know its him!

Danny McMahon | My Kinda City | New Release

The last twelve months have been heavily focused travelling across the world to perform, a concept that his new upcoming single, My Kinda City, explores. The track was written during the last trip Danny took to Nashville in October 2019 with an amazing Nashville based singer-songwriter, Tyler Bank. Its a modern country pop upbeat track that has you hooked from the moment the music starts until the moment it ends. The story is about more than just travelling around the world, its about having that special somebody or place that to call home. The beat is enough alone to capture your attention but the lyrics as well as how Danny performs it have you mesmerised. The incredible thing about Danny is that he is not just a singer-songwriter, he produced this track himself too and has produced music for other artists such as Bob Fitzgerald who was featured in my last post! Pre-order starts tomorrow with the release date set or May 15th, so be sure to head to spotify, apple music or amazon music tomorrow so you can be amongst the first to hear this spectacular single.

Bob Fitzgerald | Artist Introductions

When we think of country music we often think of Nashville, otherwise known as music city – but in recent years the industry has seen tremendous growth across the UK and Europe. Its hard to pinpoint the exact reason for the growth over the last ten or so years, there are a number of aspects that could have played a role in it. The show ‘Nashville’ first hit our screens in 2012 followed by the launch of a popular country music festival, country to country, in 2013. A number of US artists such as Carrie Underwood, Kip Moore and more have even headlined their own tours here in the UK over the years. New US artists also can’t wait to come over to the UK as they hear nothing but good vibes from artists who have played shows here!

Its easy to say that the last ten years have seen a growing audience – this has resulted in a number of home grown UK country artists such as Ward Thomas, Laura Oakes, Holloway Road and more. Born and raised in South Wales, singer-songwriter Bob Fitzgerald, is one of the newest UK artists to break into the UK country music scene! In 1984 his parents bought a cassette tape of the Eagles – Greatest hits, its one that he believes is the soundtrack to his life – including his career in music. To think this cassette tape led him to where he is in life today is a little crazy – it shows how the small things can change your life.

Running from the Rain | Debut Single

Running from the Rain was released on March 6th 2020 giving us a taste of what to expect from him as an artist. Running from the Rain also provided us with an opportunity to listen to how Bob would mix different genres of music to create a sound unique to him. His aim with his music is to create music that would stick in the minds of all those who listen to his music, whether it be the catchy lyrics or phenomenal vocal performance – he certainly did that with Running from the Rain. The single was recorded and produced at Puzzle Maker Studios where Bobs single, along with his EP, were produced by an award winning team – fellow country artist Danny McMahon (who will be featured in a few days) and Andrea Succi. In addition to working with Puzzle Maker Studios, he also started collaborating with Scarlet River Management to make plans for a UK tour which would promote his debut EP.

As an artist Bob is focused on creating a sound that is unique. If you take different aspects from artists like Eagles, Keith Urban, George Straight, Midland as well as Bon Jovi and mix them together then you have an insight to the sort of sound you can expect. As discussed previously in this post its the right mixture of different genres but with a real authentic country twist. Lyrically speaking his songs tell a story whether it be of a good time, a loss, love or life in general – the music he creates is something we can all relate too one way or another.

Another Highway | Debut EP

April 24th 2020 saw the release of his debut EP, Another Highway, which received an excellent reception! On release day his EP went in a number 2 on country music charts and number 29 on the main album charts, this means he was top 40 for both on Itunes! As a new artist releasing his first ever EP this was incredible alone but it was about to get much better, on April 25th, so one day after release his EP jumped into the number 1 spot ahead of artists such as The Shires and Lucinda Williams! To finish this post lets talk about the different songs on the EP!

One of These Nights
You may be looking for a song to add to your road trip play list – look no further, this catchy tune is exactly what you need. Its one of those feel good kinda songs.
Running from the Rain
This is the single he released in March, starting with the sound of rain helps us paint a clear image of the story behind the song. The perfect mix of guitar and vocals to create a perfect country tune!
She’ll Do
My personal favourite from the EP is this acoustic track, it starts and remains much calmer then the first two tracks but still showcases Bobs amazing musical ability. The lyrics tell a story that many could relate too.
Run
The beat reminded me of artists like Keith Urban or Kip Moore, its one of those songs that you will find yourself humming along with, maybe add this one to your road trip play list as well!

Listen to his EP and single on your favourite streaming platform now!

To get new updates regarding music, tours or his career in general you can follow him on the links above! If this is the first time you’ve heard about him then give his music a listen and let me know what you think below! As mentioned before, Danny McMahon, who was part of the team who worked with Bob to produce his wonderful debut EP, will be featured in my blog later this week! Briana Tyson : Introducing US Music

Introducing:
Briana Tyson

Where is she from:
South California but living in Nashville.

Briana Tyson | Artist Introduction

For Briana Tyson there was never a question about whether music would be a part of her life or not, it had been part of her daily life since she was around four years old! By the age of eleven she had already created her first album and is the first to admit that music is what she was put on earth to do. The California native was just sixteen when she started working on a record deal which led to her family making the move to Nashville. That deal however fell through but the family made the decision to stay in Nashville so that Briana could continue to chase her dream. Luckily, three years later at just nineteen she signed with William Morris Agency – this led to one of her most memorable music memories opening for Vince Gill at a packed out theatre in Florida. This moment is one that she will never forget as it was at a time where she was doubting herself – she performed a original song and received a standing ovation which moved her to tears. She admits she was out touring or playing a show almost every weekend including touring with other artists such as Craig Morgan and Neal McCoy.

Fast forward a few years and Briana eventually decided that country music wasn’t for her so made the decision to try out the world of LA pop, however quickly decided that wasn’t exactly the right fit for her either. Today Briana is making a living by producing demo or studio recordings while still creating music such as her recent single, Nobody’s Gonna Love You, which is available to stream on your favourite platforms! She admits her goal is just to produce ‘good music’ without it necessarily fitting into one specific genre. A lot of this goal comes from one of her inspirations in music, John Mayer, an artist that one day she hopes to join on the road. John Mayer is known for creating music that he wants to release without having a specific type of music in mind.

Creative Process & Songwriting

The creative process for Briana is one that differs depending on the song she is working on, sometimes she starts with the lyrics and others she starts with the melody. She added that when working on her most recent single, Nobody’s Gonna Love You, they had the melody and hook figured out way before adding any of the other lyrics. Her recent single gives you an insight and taste of the talent this young woman has – but what if I told you that when she was just fourteen she sang in front of Celine Dion who ended up harmonising with her? When you put that together with the different artists she has toured with or hopes to tour with then its clear to see that she is not going to fit herself into any specific type of music.

The one thing that has taken Briana by surprise during her time in the industry is a sensitive topic for her. The lack of respect female artists or producers get is something a number of artists, including Briana, have voiced as a concern. Its something Briana hopes to spread more awareness for in the hopes that one day the women of the industry get the respect, air time and recognition they deserve!

Nobody’s Gonna Love You | Recent Release

As an artist she is using this current time to work on new songs with the hopes of releasing a couple new singles in the not to distant future! Music is not the only thing keeping her busy though as she is about to start hosting a new podcast as well as being in talks about being involved with a new show that neither her or I can disclose at this time. Once this situation has smoothed over it seems as though this talented young lady will have a busy and bright future. She is eager to continue her journey in the music industry as well as in general, furthermore she is extremely thankful for the support and love she has been shown over the years.

As mentioned before her single, Nobody’s Gonna Love You, which was released on April 17th, is available to stream on your favourite platforms right now! If you want to join Briana on her journey then you can do so by following her social media accounts that are linked above!

Let me know what you think of her song below and be sure to check back in the future for more reviews and news on her latest releases!

Children of the State | Artist Introduction

In the modern day music industry artists or bands can go one of two ways – they can find a gap in an existing market or create their own, its important to note there is no right or wrong here. Finding a gap in an existing market is about creating music other people would want to hear with catchy choruses and stories the audience can relate too. Creating a niche market focuses on the elements of your band that are unique and developing a distinct sound and story that is missing from the industry. Children of the State, a five piece self proclaimed ‘peyote punk’ band have definitely focused on establishing their own market for their music – but also do it in a way that interests the existing markets. With inspirations from different eras; 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, its clear that the band are sculpting a unique authentic sound with perfect mixture of different decades.

Children of the State, which consists of members – John McCullagh, Nathan Keeble, Harry Eland, Conor O’Reilly and Corey Clifton, originally started as a four piece with Harry being the last one to join the band as their sound developed more over time. One of the easiest ways to see just how much they have grown over the years is their progression at festivals such as tramlines! In 2018 they played at tramlines on Crystal stage, 2019 they got a slot on the Leadmill stage and this year they are set to play on the main stage. Naturally John (and myself) expect that its only a matter of time until they’re headlining one of the nights on the main stage!

Kill Your Darlings | Debut EP

Prior to their 2018 debut at Tramlines the band, who at that time was four piece, released ‘Kill Your Darlings’ which was their first EP. With tracks such as Tomorrow we’ll drift and the title track, Kill Your Darlings, Children of the State showcased their music, ability and talent perfectly. Following their first EP and their debut at Tramilnes in 2018 – in 2019 they released their second EP titled ‘Gideon’s Bible’ with tracks featured such as my personal favourites Sail and I Shiver When I Burn. In my opinion their music has gone from strength to strength. Their latest single, Big Sur, a song produced by Ian Skelly at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool which was released earlier this month on April 10th. Big Sur is the uplifting song we all need right now with a meaning behind it that we can all relate too, especially at this time – the desire to go to the beach! Every single time they release new music it just get better!

Big Sur | New Release

In my opinion, the best thing about Children of the State is that they haven’t really stopped since they got the momentum going giving their fans enough to keep them hooked but not too much that they get bored – even though Big Sur has only been out for a little over two weeks I’m already eager to hear more music by them! All being well I’m hoping to catch them live at some point this year and do a review of them live, so keep an eye out for that. With Johns vocals and the musical ability of every other member in the band its clear that the future is bright for these guys. To put it simply, if the last few years are anything to go off then I think we all can just accept now that these guys are about to take the world by storm!

Furthermore, if you are stuck at home thinking over creating a new playlist to get you through working from home, working out, cooking, cleaning or whatever it is you’re doing these days then do me a favour, add Children of the State to it! You’ll love them, I’m sure. If you’re able too then be sure to support them by streaming their music, buying their merch, following their social accounts above and sharing their music with friends & family!

My first time hearing Children of the State was in 2019 at Tramlines music festival, if you went to Tramlines last year did you hear them?

For a moment lets take it back to my first experience of Brett Eldredge, long before I even had the honour and privilege of seeing him live. There is a song he released that I feel a strong pull towards, a song that tells a powerful story and a song that he so beautifully recorded. Since hearing that song, a track titled Raymond, I was hooked on his music. Thankfully I was at Country to Country last year when Brett made his first appearance. There were a lot of highlights to his set but to hear Raymond live for the first time is an experience I will never forget. Ever since that evening, that breathtakingly beautiful performance I vowed to listen to more of his music, to learn more of his story and to see him again as soon as the opportunity presented itself. During the recent months Brett has been focused on his upcoming album.

The crowds were eagerly awaiting Brett to take to the stage, cheering and encouraging the Illinois native to take centre stage. It was a Monday night in the city of Manchester but there was no sign of Monday blues on the faces of the crowds throughout the O2 Ritz. It was his first time performing in Manchester, but his third visit to the UK and it was obvious that everybody had been just as excited as I was about this show. He opened the set with a completely new song, a track called Good Day a song that seemed to set the scene for the rest of the show. The american singer-songwriter then made an announcement, one which once again gave the crowd a taste of what was to come ‘”We’re gonna get wild tonight” he said before moving on to two tracks that everybody was singing along too Somethin’ I’m Good At and Don’t Ya.

It was clear that Brett was excited to be touring the UK , his interaction with the crowd throughout his set which lasted a little over an hour and a half shown us all just how thankful he was. A clear fan favourite was Love Someone, the crowd was swaying from side to side as they sang along to this incredible track. Most of his set did focus on his existing repertoire however on a few occasions Brett gave us an taster of his new music, Crowd My Mind was the second new track he let us experience. Weeks later I still can’t find the right words to explain the impact that song had on me – you could hear the emotion in Brett’s voice, I was left speechless, it was a wonderfully powerful ballad. The story behind the song is one that the majority of the population will relate too whether it be romantically or not, its about not being able to get somebody of your mind (Aw!)

A rousing cover of Queen’s Crazy Little Thing Called Love arrived before Brett stripped things down for two acoustic songs – Raymond and The Long Way. Raymond, a song about Brett’s grandmother battling dementia, is truly heart-breaking when played acoustic and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t struggling to hold back the tears. The Long Way picked up the mood slightly and it made me yearn for a solo acoustic record from Brett in the future. One of the night’s surprises came next when Brett covered Billie Eilish’s When The Party’s Over. On paper it shouldn’t work but in reality it was a real highlight, and dare I say Brett’s version was preferable to the original?

A storming rendition of Lose My Mind led into the night’s final new song, Magnolia, before a mash-up of The Reason and The Temptations’ My Girl had the audience singing once again. The triple punch of Mean to Me, Fire and Wanna Be That Song continued the sing-a-long before Brett left the stage. He returned minutes later for an encore that consisted of a gorgeous piano-led rendition of One Mississippi and an energetic performance of Beat of the Music.

Once the end of the night arrived, Brett bid farewell to the crowd and emphasised how special the night had been to him. With three visits under his belt, I expect Brett will play even bigger venues on his next tour. As a performer he’s energetic and incredibly giving, and as an artist he’s endearing and compelling. His infectious energy is at the centre of everything he does and I left the show excited about his next album and feeling lucky to watch his incredible rise to superstardom.

As this post is a little delayed due to a number of reasons I would also like to add that his new album is set for release on July 10th 2020 with a number of tracks available to stream now, including Crowd My Mind, which he played during this concert. If you haven’t already head over to your favourite streaming platform and download the pre-released tracks, you won’t be disappointed!

Tell me about one song that speaks volumes to you?

PS: Sorry I didn’t cover Lauren in this, I was so excited to finally see her live that I got lost in the music – but I can tell you she was absolutely incredible!
